Today my check engine light came and the car stopped several times before I got home. What do you think might be the problem??????

The most common cause of that issue is a failed IDLE AIR CONTROL. It is located on the intake manifold, right under the throttle body. SOmetimes, it gets real dirty, and no longer provides enough air to maintai IDLE; or, it has failed. I would get the IAC checked.
