Toyota: Camry Surging, bg 44k, toyota cars

Question
Ed, I have a '98 Camry LE, 4cyl, Auto.......
About a month ago, it seemed to feel as though it's missing.  It has since started to surge in all gears,
with Drive being the worst and with the AC on, it's even
worse.  I've done a complete tuneup and even found a burnt ignition coil which has been replaced as well.  Also replaced the PCV valve but haven't done the fuel filter yet. It's getting worse and seems to stutter when accelerating.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Answer
OK. First, when you did the tune up, did you uses TOYOTA parts? If not, that may be part of the problem. Toyota cars run crappy on aftermarket plugs/cap/rotor/wires/coil/etc.

Second, how many miles is on the timing belt? If it has been over 60K since it was changed, change it now.

Third, an "induction cleaning" would be advised, to clean the tops of the valves off. Some real good fuel injector cleaner
("BG-44K" is best) would also be advised.

Finally, don't fool with the fuel filter. It is NOT your problem.
