Hi,
Bought 2004 Avalon. It came with only one ingnition key - a master.  Bought a blank transponder key and had it cut.  Works fine so far.

Now I need to know the procedure for programming this key so the start function will recognize it.

Can you help?

THanks
Cleggy

Answer -
Sorry Cleggy, can't help! :)  KIDDING, KIDDING. Here's all that you need right below!

For 1998+ Toyota, Lexus
Add Duplicate Key
1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2. Insert existing master key into ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and
remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

For 2002+ Toyota, Lexus
Add Duplicate Key
Requires one working Toyota/Lexus Master Key.
1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed.
2. Insert Master key into the ignition cylinder.
3. Cycle the ignition cylinder from On to OFF five times.
4. Open and close the “driver side door 6 times.
5. Remove the Master Key and insert the new duplicates key.
6. TURN THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON.
7. The new key will be registered after 60 seconds. The THEFT light on the dashboard will go out, indicating that programming has been completed.

Hope this helps and please feel free to write back should this NOT work for you.

P.S.  '04 Avalon.. Nice car;)  Some nice state legal black tints finish off the upscale look of the Avalon (in my opinion) :)

Answer
I pulled these instructions off of the internet, they apply to an 03 Avalon
with FCC: HYQ12BAN on the back of the remote. Good luck.

Get in the car, leaving the driver's door open. Lock the doors with the
power lock button. Unlock the driver's door manually, leaving the others
locked.

1) Insert the key into the ignition then pull it out.

2) Using the manual lock button, lock and unlock the doors five times at
one second intervals.

lock - wait - unlock - wait, etc...

3) Close the driver's door then reopen it.

4) Again, using the manual lock button, lock and unlock the doors five
times at one second intervals.

5) Insert the key into the ignition and turn to 'RUN' then back to 'LOCK'
(in one-second intervals).

6) Remove the key.

The car should now lock and unlock once by itself. This indicates that
'add mode' has been selected.

7) Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote at the same time then
release.

Press either button on the remote again for more than 1-second.

The car should now lock and unlock once by itself. This indicates that
remote has been added.
(If the car locks and unlocks twice try again from step 7)

9) Close the driver's door to complete the programming.

Take your time and make sure that the intervals are right. Hope this works
for you
