Question -
Our car uses 2-3 quarts of oil about every 500-600 miles.  The dealer mechanic says the engine was made to use oil.  We have check to make sure it is not leaking.  Do you understand why the car is using so much oil.  Have others complained about this.
Answer -
2-3 every 500 mi?  That's a little high.  Does the car smoke?  Does it idle rough?  How's fuel economy.  Are you the first owners of this car?

How many miles does the car have?  You say you've checked for leaks already?

Answer
I guess the engine may have had a bad break-in period.  But, check your spark plugs.  If they are covered in black soot, the oil is leaking into the engine's cyinders.  The color that shows a good burning engine is white dust.  Reply back after you check your plugs...  In my reply back, I send you the spark plug color chart.

Meanwhile, while oil may not drip down to the street or underneath the car, it can still leak out from the valve cover.  As well, from a bad gasket on a oil filter.  Bad seal on the oil drain plug.  See if you can see the back of the engine.  At 60+mi, it's typical to touch some black sort of sticky soot, but it should not be around the valve cover.  As well, it won't be fresh and fluid but rather semi-dry and stick.  Kinda like letting soda dry on a glass table to get that sticky aftereffect.
