I'm a bit confused.  So, you're telling me that the car went from a dead "P" light to just no longer starting?  Or..  the shift indicator light no longer works at all?
Answer -
Hm..  I don't think they are related but so, when you try to fire up the car, nothing happens?  No noise at all?  Did you have any symptoms with starting just before this happened?  Hard starting, headlights dimming during night driving for no reason, clicking when trying to start, sometimes the key needed to be turned more than once but it would FINALLY start...  Let's see if I can point you in the right direction but AT THE MINIMUM, make sure your battery contacts are fine.  Use some sandpaper inside the terminal rings or a decent toothbrush and some cola (not diet) or baking soda and water mix to wash off both the ring terminal and the terminals of the battery.  no noise at all started fine before this happened will start easy if you jump the starter posts.thanks

Answer
If you jumped from the starter and not at the battery then you bypassed the starter solenoid.  Seeing as it did fire up and you have checked the battery terminals, you may want to look into the solenoid to see if it's working fine. Make sure the cable leading to it is correctly bolted on and that there isn't any oil, carbon, or any other buildup on the starter that would prevent any connection from properly working.  Another thing is to look at the grounding cables in the engine bay.

Hope this helps!
