Toyota: Fixing a 1987 Toyota 64D Pick up 4x4, frame body, showroom condition

Question
Hi David,
I love my toyota pick up it never gave me any problems until now!
My wife, my friends and my mechanic say that am CRAZY to want to fix up a 1987 truck with 180mph I would love to fix it up totaly.
This is what it needs:
A totaly new bottom frame, body work for not to much rust, but enough. It leaks oil, the gas tank is going....(rust) emergency brake not working, new tires and probably a new motor. My mechanic said it's not worth it and gave me an approximate price from $8.000 to $10.000 dollars could he be right? Is this worth it? And can these pieces be found for this truck?
Awaiting for your answer!
Thank you
Renato

Answer
Well, I'm not exactly sure what you are curious about finding for the truck.  As far as a new engine, that's a piece of cake to find.  You could try to rebuild the one you have with a full gasket set.  A frame would probably be harder to find but it's probably possible.  Junkyards exist.  So, the question isn't if it's possible to restore the car to an almost complete, showroom condition, but if you want to spend all that money.  How much exactly?  Well, if your mechanic is doing the work, then 8 to 10 grand is probably a good estimate.  If you did it yourself, you could probably do it for about...  4 or 4500 bucks with a new engine.   EBay, Renato, that's all you need.

Now, "Is this worth it?" is up to you.  Your money, your car.  For me, I don't think I'll ever let go of my first car.  It's just a part of me.  But, 10 thousand could easily go to the new UPCOMING Tundra.  It's a beautiful truck;)

Hope this helps!
