Volkswagen: VW sharan wiper fuse, broken fuse, vw sharan

Dear expert,

our VW sharan is not a classical car (2001), but I hope you can give us some advice. Our rear and front windscreen wipers recently packed up, apparently due to a broken fuse. We replaced the fuse, but the same happened again. The garage replaced a switch, but the problem is still there. They have now managed to get the wipers going again, but if the windscreen washing is used, the fuse will blow again. They advised that an electrician needs to examine the electrics, and are unable to estimate the costs.  Is there anything else that could be done ? Is this a known issue ? I would be grateful for any advice. With now cost estimate I am reluctant to ask them to sort it out.

 Sorry for the delay, I was out sick.
Sounds like the wiper motor is going bad, specifically the bearings may be binding, causing too much friction and electrical current draw, which can then blow the fuse.  Also friction of the wiper arm pivots could cause the same problem.  Maybe either just needs some lubrication.
