Volkswagen: stalling, tune up, cylinders

Hi, I've got a '72 1300 Bug, it starts Ok but runs with a bit of an irregular beat.
When i try to drive off there seems to be no power and the engine stalls.
Any ideas?

 These are very general symptoms, so it could be several things, but sounds like one or more cylinders are not firing.  Also could be a clogged main jet in the carb.  However, you might want to just try a general tuneup; see these procedures:
