Volkswagen: 1971 SB Vert with AS and A/C, vw engine, rebuilder

Question
Ron- I am in the process of restoring this car. It's 99% all original and was in storage for 25 years. The engine has 95K miles and runs well but is tired.I think after running for a while there is a little rod knock. I was planning to rebuild myself, but do you know of a "reptuable engine builder in Northern or Central NJ. I was planning on pulling out myself and bringing to a rebuilder. Any help. thanks

Sorry, my VWs live in Montana with me.  You might contact www.GeneBerg.com in California; his outfit is one of the most respected in the business; Gene (now deceased) and his sons set new standards for aircooled VW engine performance.  They may be able to point you in the right direction, maybe even convince you to DIY.
