Volkswagen: 2001 VW Passat Turn Signal, vw passat, hazard switch

When I use my left & right turn signal, it will blink for 2 or 3 times and then stop even though the turn signal is still on.  I have tested this in park with the same results.  I tested the hazard lights and they works just fine.  I try the turn signal and it blinks 2 or 3 times and then nothing.  I checked all the fuses and found no problems there.  I checked all the light bulbs and none are broken.  Any suggestions?

The blink action for the turn signals is controlled by the hazard switch.  It is very common for them to fail.  It's very easy to change.  Put a screwdriver behind the hazard switch cover and pry it off.  Then grab the rim of the switch and pull it from the dash.  Unplug the harness, plug it into the new switch and then reinstall into the dash.
