Volkswagen: A/C Problems, blown fuse, vw beetle

Question
My 2001 VW Beetle A/C woks at times . The only time it works is when the cooling fans cycle at normal operating temperature. Up until it is time for the fans to cycle the a/c will not come on. The blower and vent controls work properly, just the compressor will not come on. The cooling fan controller has already been replaced but did not fix the problem. Any help?

Answer
Stephen it is kind of difficult to e-diagnose air problems.  That said,...I really need to look at a wiring schematic to tell you what parts to test.  I only have schematics up to early 1999 (A3) cars at home.  It sounds to me like your wiring is sound if everything works when the fans are on.  So either you have a blown fuse or bad relay. (for the A/C fans) There are fuses located on the left side of the dash and on top of the battery.  I beleive your thermo switch side of the system is sound since it is kicking the fans on...but if your old module was cracked or burnt up...then I'd put money on a fuse being blown.  Let me know what you find.  I am staying home this week as well due to my wife having brain surgery last week, but I should be back at work next week if you don't find anything. I will look up wiring for you.  Sorry for the delay,...but family calls right now.
