Volkswagen: VW Golf 2003 AirCon/ClimateControl, vw golf tdi, golf tdi 150

I recently bought a 2003 VW Golf TDI 150 PD.
If I have the AC/ClimateControl on ( when I start the engine ot the car is idling at traffic lights/junction, etc, a faint roar is heard coming from the engine compartment which gets slightly louder after 3-5 seconds after which the engine then revs up a little and fades back to idling. This cycle of noise/events occurs every 10-15 seconds.

If the AC/ClimateControl is off, there is no such activty.

I would be extremely grateful for any advise/direction you can give.

Hi Gansh,

It sounds like your air conditioning compressor

a) Has a problem

b) Is low on coolant

If you are familiar with how to put the refrigerant in the car, go to the local auto store.  They sell the coolant with the pressure gauge.

If the noise does not stop after you check the pressure, you may have a problem with your compressor, which needs to be checked out by a professional A/C shop.
