Volkswagen: 02 1.8T Jetta engine or tranny, emergency brake, 8t

Question
I absolutely love my car and like to work on it, but I can't seem to solve this? Whenever I accelerate (kinda hard), lets say at an intersection, my car will take off fine but then it seems like the tranny lets go before it gets to second, because the RPM's just shoot the the roof till I let off the gas then it accelerates fine unless I punch it again. I just changed the MAF thinking that was it but no. Could it be the tranny or a sensor (engine). It shifts fine if I accelerate slow. I'm puzzled!?

Answer
Ok freddy... I want you to try this.  Put the car is third gear, pull the emergency brake all the way up, rev the car to 3500rpms and very slowly let off the clutch until the clutch is all the way out, keep applying more gas as the rpms drop so the car doesn't die. Turn the key off and open door... do you smell something really funky?  Let me know if the car cuts off or you smell something after this test.
thanks,
