Volkswagen: 97 Jetta GLX VR6 DOHC automatic, jumper cables, jetta glx

Question
hi, i have a bit of an issue that aparently is common. I drove my jetta to work yesterday and everything was fine... started fine, drove fine, no issues to speak of. 3 hrs later i tried to start it on my lunch break and it wouldnt go. there were no clicking sounds/sputtering. basically i have full power (windows, radio, etc.) but it wouldnt do anything at all when  i turned the key. we tried to boost the battery, and still got nothing, not even a click. i read about the solonoid and we tried to jump it directly with the jumper cables and a screw driver. it looks like all the components under the hood are in working order, i have power to everything... just no spark to start. its an automatic, so can't bump start. im going to take it to a guy on monday, but im worried that he might try to rip me off. id like a un-biased professional opinion, to go in with. thanks a lot man.

Hello Jennie.  my internet was down for the weekend while I upgraded my wireless here at the house.  Do you still need advise?  Let me know,

Thanks so much for you understanding.  I'm sorry you had to wait, unfortunately my wife and I are remodeling our house and I needed to rewire the wireless system in our office.  I VOLUNTEER to help people, it is a free service, please understand that you are one of many that i help daily.  I know that car troubles can be frustrating, I'm sure you will be on the road again soon.
