Volkswagen: ATF light on...78 super beetle, dash lights, manual transmission

Hi Ron. I have a 78 Super Beetle convertible. It has a MANUAL transmission; a 4 speed. Today my ATF light came on; fully bright. No other dash lights came on. I had the engine rebuilt last year, w/a brand new clutch thrown in. It isn't  leaking any fluid, & it still seems to shift just fine. The light came on while I was cruising @ 70mph en route to work. No smoke or noise or anything. I'm @ work now, & don't know if I should get it towed home or not. Please help!

The ATF light applies just to the Autostick beetles which were discontinued in 1975.  

It sounds like you have a short behind the dashboard.  If you have oil in it, the engine is not overheated, you should have no problem driving it home.

However, you need to track down that electric problem.
