Volkswagen: 71 SuperBeetle Auto-Stick, fuse holder, carberator

Question
Hi, I have a stock setup and I have a couple issues - 1st: I recently had a new 1600cc engine installed and now my reverse lights do not function. The garage can't figure it out either. I do see a connector plug sticking out of the firewall with nothing connecting to it and the wires from the solenoid to the switch are connected, but I'm lost from there. 2nd: Prior to the new engine I did not have a fuel filter aside from the screens in the tank and the pump. I have noticed a collection of either fuel or oil at the base of the fuel pump but can't tell where it is leaking from from. My concern is that the in-line filter being between the pump and carberator is somehow causing this. Do I need this filter??

Answer
Hi,

The reverse lights connect via a black fuse holder to the + on the ignition coil.  They are also plugged into a socket that is connected to the transmission.

Second,  There is a gasket on the top of the fuel pump that is probably leaking.  Just remove the little screw and make sure it is seated correctly, and snug it back on.  You should be good to go!

Take Care,

Ron
