Volkswagen: jetta engine rebuild, salvage value, reputable place

Question

Borrowed my friend's 1992 Jetta, heater core cracked, anti freeze in floor...put water in kept driving engine is bound up...ahhhh!

My question: Does an engine rebuild greatly reduce the resale value of the car? I would think that since the engine already has 130,000miles on it.

My friend is saying i should pay the approx resale value before the engine bound up.  I think I should pay for a rebuild...anyhelp???

Answer
Hi Jackson,

Depending on the condition of your car, a rebuilt/new engine will not reduce the sale price of your car.  Particularly, if you buy it from a reputable firm.

The cost is around $3,100, and you will get about $800 back for sending them your old motor.

Otherwise, the car is probably only worth it's salvage value, give or take $200.00

Here is a link to a reputable place for a Jetta motor:

If you mention that you received this link from me on this site, they may offer you a discount.

Best of luck, hope this helps you.
