Volkswagen: Tune-up, correct part numbers, distributor number


Question
1972 super beetle california type,  
has correct carb, distributer, spark plugs etc.
want to know tune-up procedure because my exhaust pipe is inside black,I think some is wrong with my set-up.
TDC is on the middle of the crankcase plus minus 2 degree. engine is running ok and my fuel consumption is on the hyw about 8.5 ltr per 100 km.
engine block is new/overhauled by GTX and has about 12000 km total.

Wie geht es?   

In order to get your VW running perfect:

1) Write down the number of your distributor (it should be on the side) and go to:

www.wolfsburgwest.com

Loook up the correct timing setting for that particular distributor.

2) Purchase the correct, points, cap, rotor, and plugs that match that specific distributor number. (There are many types)

3) Make sure that your air cleaner is set-up properly as well.
