Volkswagen: Dual Battery System for 1976 Westfalia, dual battery system, voltage requirement

Question
Hello-  My husband and I finally have conquered a rebuild and CA
smog for our 1976 Westy.  I have heard that  a dual battery system
is a good idea due to the fuel injection voltage requirement upon
starting and the fact that we will be camping in it a lot.  I am
wondering what is the best way to go about adding a second
battery?
Thanks, Jen

Answer
Hi Jen,

Pretty easy set up.

1) Go to www.busdepot.com and buy the dual battery relay. $12.95.

2) Place the second battery on the opposite side of the engine compartment.

3) Hook up any accessories you would like to the second battery.  While camping, you can run the accessories as long as you want.   The dual battery relay will prevent the starting battery from dying.

4) When you leave, the relay will allow the second battery to be charged by the alternator.

The instructions come with the relay, and it is very easy to install.

Take Care,
