Volkswagen: vw timing, dune buggy, model engine

dear ron,
  i am a fairly good backyard mech but i have never owned or worked on a vw. my older brother brought me a dune buggy to work on but it is driving me crazy.its somewhere between a 68-70' model engine. i know that its pretty far out of time and i hove not got a clue how to set the timing. can you please help me out?

Hi Dave,

No problem.  Easy to do.

However, I need the number of the distributor. (located on the metal side where the cap sits.

Should say 009......  or ZVW 001
