Volkswagen: spare keys and key tag, chassis number, vw passat

Question
I,ve recently brought a 18 month old, used VW Passat estate sport 2003, from a VW dealer last week, and i,ve found that i do not have an emergency key (plastic) or key tag which will hold the key number if the key is lost.

The dealer said they do not have any spares for the car, and that if i need one cut in the future VW can make one up without the key tag. Is this right? and will they charge me?

Do they have an obligation to hand me the keys complete with the car???

Should they have told me before the car was purchased that no spare keys were available

Answer
they should have informed you that the spare key was missing, but if they gave you two keys then there is not much that you can do. it is correct that volkswagon can cut a key for your car, all they need is the chassis number and logbook for the vehicle to prove that you own it. a key for your car would be roughly aroundd £100 including coding it to the car.
