Volkswagen: VW Passat 1997 front suspension, vw passat, uneven surfaces

Question
1.9 TDI SE, Nearside suspension, I followed the last insructions, all ok, my initial problem was 1. distinctive knock/noise of something moving when changing direction from forward to reverse, I changed the top two suspension arms, the front one definitely had movement, the noise is still there, 2. there is a knock when going over rough/uneven surfaces, I would like to add that the Passat model was recalled a few months ago and checked, I have had the no2 problem for years, the no1 problem for months, both problems were on the car when it was recalled, no fault found! the only modification I have done is to change the discs and the pads on both sides. any ideas?

Answer
the knock over rough / uneven ground is usually the lower straight arm or the anti roll bar link. the changing direction noise is usually a curved suspension arm (lower). changing the discs and pads is unlikely to effect it unless the pads are so loose that they can move in the brake carrier.
