Volvo: flashing arrow, transmission control unit, light flashes

Question
my 2000 s40 has a blinking arrow and check engine light. sometimes it will hardly go when I press the gas. could this be the pnp switch? I'm pretty capable is it something that can be changed myself? How much should I pay for that part?

Answer
Deena,
Since the light flashes and the check engine light is on that means there is a fault stored in the system, most likely the transmission control unit. You need to read the codes and see what they are. The PNP switch is about $175.00. If your are handy and have the tools you can try the repair. You will however need to have the codes read with a scan tool and to clear them.
