Volvo: 1983 Volvo DL Wagon, engine wiring harness, old volvos

Question
There is a guy down the street that is selling his 83 volvo dl station wagon.  I have loved this wagon ever since I set eyes on it, however, it has 260,000 for mileage.  I am wondering what kind of life is left in an engine with that many miles.  I know the guy is has pampered this car and it shows.

Also, while I was driving it last night he said it only got 20mpg.  Are there ways to increase the MPG on old volvos like this?

He's asking for $2,000 OBO, is that a reasonable price?

Thanks for your insight!

Answer
Paul,
Have the car inspected by a Volvo shop and see if they can provide a list of things that it needs. Look at the front end parts, the engine wiring harness, rear axle bushings, exhaust system, the way the trans shifts etc. If all that checks out it may turn out to be a nice car. The price seems a bit high, unless your comfortable with it and all systems check out excellent.
