Question
I was driving at 65plus when suddenly I experienced a complete loss of power with a strong smell of gas. I did not attempt to start the car but had it towed to a mechanic who had done a repair on the car several days before which involved removing the gas tank.  He claims it started immediately and he found nothing wrong and was unable after multiple test drives to duplicate the symptom. His shop is closed for a week and he told me to drive it only locally and bring it back upon his return. Mentioned that it could be a fuel pump problem and that it would probably happen again. Car has 185,000 miles on it and we are not anxious to invest alot .

Answer
Emilie,
Since the car is not worth investing in and if your problem is a fuel pump. That pump alone is 400.00 I would trade it in now while it runs. For all you know there was a problem with the fuel tank or pump and during his second inspection he touched on it and it is fixed. With the mileage and year of car it might be time to replace the car.
