Honda: honda code 1456, P1456, Honda

Question
honda crv 2002 with 2002 miles.  This code has been on for 1 year
now. Fist I was told it is the gas cap not tight. Then the fuel filler needed to be replaced honda had a TSB on that. Light still
came on then the 2 way valve they replaced the car still sits at Honda because the code was pending. They did a smoke test and now I need a gas tank! Would it be wise to get that fuel pump to save
further problems? I did request a smoke test this time why I got it.  Thanks also is it commom for a gas tank to fail this soon?

Answer
Fuel pumps are a rare failure on most Hondas newer than the 1989 Accord and 1987 Prelude. With that said, it's not common to have a fuel tank that has a leak, but I have run into it before. I have seen road hazards puncture tanks and even screws run through the floorboard into the fuel tank(screws holding boom box speakers or amps). There is a threaded collar that secures the fuel pump to the fuel tank that must be replaced any time the fuel pump is removed. If it is ever reused , it can cause a p1456.
