Question
QUESTION: I failed to tell you it was a 1988 Volvo 740 GLE in my previous post dealing with the kickdown cable.

ANSWER: Jeff,
Follow the instructions in the first e-mail to see what happens. If you need help take the car to a Volvo shop so you can be sure they know what they are doing.

QUESTION: Ray,
I apologize but I did not receive the first email with instructions.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Jeff,
If you are good mechanically you will have to pull the pan and replace the cable then test drive to see if that has fixed the car. If not you may need a trans. Where the cable attaches in the trans at the valve body you may find the fault, or the cable is stuck in the sheath. The cable rides on a cam that is spring loaded and attached to the valve body.
