Fuel gauge is totally unreliable. Shows anything from zero to full regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. How can I test both the sender and the gauge to find the problem?v

Remove the sending unit and use an ohm meter to read it. Start with it in the empty position record the reading move the sender to read about half then to full save the readings. Use a gauge tester on the harness side of the wires and put those values (readings) in see if the gauge moves. If you do not get any reading from the sender that is at fault. If the gauge will not read then it could be the wires going up front or the circuit card on the cluster or the gauge.
