Volvo: 94 850 fouled sparkplugs. Enging wont start., mass air flow meter, mass air flow

Question
Ray, apprently you are back on the job and Jimmy is now away.  I have given you my original question, his spot on response and my reply to his response.  May be a bit much, but available info is clear.  May I send you the rest of the info or do I need to start all over.  Perhaps you will have a suggestion in the meantime.  Thanks Harris

Thanks, The recent service records went with the vehicle when it was towed this afternoon,  Appreciate you keeping this open for a couple of days so they can be recovered, and specific info provided to you on past episodes.  The have had, since the first incident, carte blanche to repair the problem.  Meanwhile, on every instance they assure that no failures or problems show up on any diagnostic computer readouts when the problem is checked out.  They freely admit that they are stumped!!  My wife did happen to have the 23 January 09 ticket in her pocketbook.  THE CONCERN WAS: CAR WILL NOT START.  SPARK PLUGS HAVE BEEN FOULING OFTEN--ANY IDEAS?  In this instance they saved the plugs, which usually are replaced, changed oil, new oil filter and a gasket, put in some gum out and their latest attempt was replacing the MASS AIR FLOW METER as the possible culprit.  Today is 5 April 09.   Same symptons, same problem.  I really need an answer to this one.  Appreciate your rapid turn around with your intial response.

I should point out that all  routine maintainance work is done on this '94 850 and a '98 S70 [No one has put a wrench to either vehicle except this company.] and we have no complaints about the care with which they care for the cars.  This problem just seems to have them unable to find a solution.

Harris

Answer
Harris,
Since it floods, have you switched brands of plugs? Possibly gone back to the Volvo plugs? Has the fuel pressure remained steady? Do the injectors spray out fuel or just a stream? The stream would make it flood as it can not mix properly with the air so it can burn. Are the intake valves carboned up and that carbon absorbs the fuel won't ignite and then floods. Is this car in cold weather? It may not crank fast enough long enough to start. Use synthetic oil.
