Volvo: driver rear brake light/tailight, 1994 volvo 940, volvo 940

I have a 1994 volvo 940 turbo wagon 4-cylinder/single overhead cam.My drivers side rear brake light is also the tailight,what happens is the tailight burned out but I still have the brake light when you stop.I replaced the bulb but the tailight part of the bulb burnt out.Also where the light goes into the lens is melted around the socket,and the brake light on the back door doesnt work anymore.

If you can not get the light to work then you will have to replace what is melted. I would say that will be the entire taillight assembly.
The rear gate light could be the wire at the hinge is broken. Further testing is needed.
A new after market rear light is about $120.00.
