Volvo: ecm, volvo s80, faults

Question
iam going to buy a volvo s80 2.9 auto but it is in limp mode and i belive it is somthing to do with the ecm transmission can this be reset

Answer
Jimmy,
Limp usually means that there is a fault that will not allow the system to properly work. Yes that fault may lie in the control unit, but could also be in the trans itself. I say have the car checked out by someone that knows these cars and that can give you their opinion after testing reading fault codes and looking at the car.
Reading fault codes and clearing them is a form of resetting the control unit, but if there is a fault that fault will return. Sometimes removing the control unit say for overnight will allow the unit to return to default and begin testing the operating systems of the trans without the influence of the previous faults. Best to have the car checked out. The trans is expensive.
