Chevrolet Repair: Excessive Brake Pedal Travel, caliper pistons, chevy 3500

Question
Have a 2003 Chevy 3500 Cargo van that has excessive brake pedal travel,Have replaced master cyl.No leaks,4 wheel disc. Hydro boost syst. The brakes work fine. It's been doing this for 6 months havent needed to add any fluid. Any thoughts you have on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Dennis...check pads... if they are wore down it can cause pedal travel as you need more pedal to push caliper pistons out...if rotors are wore down past their discard point that will also cause more pedal travel...also look to see if the pads are hanging up in the sliders or that caliper sliders are siezed causing the caliper to not self adjust.if caliper cannot adjust then piston has to travel to the pad when braking then it retracts back causing more pedal travel...hope this helps...merry christmas
