Volvo: 1988 volvo 740 GLE, volvo 740 gle, mass air flow sensor

I have an 88 740 GLE. starts fine, idles choppy and has no power in gear. orig. failure was a fuel pump. installed new one and engine would not start. found plastic key in rotor button sheered off. installed new cap, rotor, plugs, and wires.

Poor idle could be low compression in one of the cylinders, clogged or defective fuel injector, dirty throttle housing. No power, is the fuel pressure correct (42 psi)? Does your car have an in tank pump that may not be working? Exhaust system clogged? Fuel filter stopped up. So many possibilities. Bad Mass air flow sensor? Take it to a Volvo tech so he/she can drive and see how it runs and make some tests.
