Volvo: should I buy???, service interval, trans fluid

Question
I'm looking at buying a 2006 S40 from a local auction, the only thing I'm scared about is that it has 84,000mi.  I don't want to be taking it to the shop all the time. Not sure if it's going to need work or replacement parts soon b/c of the miles or if I should pay extra and buy a more expensive car with less miles. How do volvos usually do around this mile mark?

Answer
Alyssa,
If there are not any service records you do not know if things like the timing belt have been done a trans flush, etc. If the t/belt breaks it will cause major damage and is expensive. Just to replace the belt at the proper service interval cost is about $750.00 to do it right. I have also seen vehicles that the trans fluid has not been flushed and the trans fails. I see these cars needing some major work over 80K. Unless it is real inexpensive and your not afraid to spend some money on maintenance go for it. Personally I would stay away. look for something with a lot less miles, so it will last.
