Volvo: 2001 XC transmission question+maintenace, mileage chart, high mileage

Hi Ray! I recently bought a 2001 XC70 with 143K miles on it. Unfortunately, I just found out about this car's well known transmission issues, and I am starting to notice my car shifting hard, delay in shifting, and a "clank" sound when I press on the accelerator.

Is it safe to do a transmission flush at such high mileage and what other things should I tell my mechanic to look for/change to keep this car in tip top shape?

I would recommend a trans flush yes. Make sure that you have your car serviced by a shop that knows the Volvo. That is your best insurance to keeping up on repairs, Volvo techs know what things will need service and when to service them. You can also look at the service book go to the mileage chart and follow that for service.
