Volvo: Engine replacement, flame trap, new flame

Question

Hello Ray,

I took my car(95 850 Glt non turbo)it has 400,000 km's. to the dealer because of the numerous engine and performance problems. 3 of the cylinders had low compression and the car was performing terrible.the dealer told me they will open the valve cover first and if necessary the rest of it. however they told me it will cost too much if they overhaul it. so I was recommended to replace the engine.this is a good idea since the engine is going to be completely new. my concern is should I replace the pcv components the oil trap, flame trap because the pcv system is not included with the new engine. the engine will come without manifolds, thermostat, and other components. also what oil should I used with the new engine? full synthetic or semi? and are there other issues we should be careful?

thanks

Answer
Mete,
Yes get the new flame trap (PCV) so everything will be new and you have a fresh start.
The intake and the exhaust will be you original along with the injectors and things like the alt and P/steering pump, A/C comp. If you are in doubt about any of those parts now is the time to have them replaced. I would go all synthetic oil.
