Volvo: 1989 740 GL Trunk Lock!, locksmith shop, secondary keys

Question
I bought a used 1989 740 GL and it didn't come with a trunk key.  The ignition key doesn't open the trunk.  Should I call a locksmith?  How do I replace the lock?  Are there parts I can get somewhere?  Who would have the key replacement?  What are my best options?

I got stopped because my rear brake lights are out but I can't get to them!

Answer
John,
There are Master and Secondary keys for your car. The key cuts are the same, but the key blanks are different. The Master key opens the trunk. Go and have a Master key cut from your key, that should work. Use a locksmith shop, not a hardware store, they may not understand the Master and Secondary key thing.
Some dealers cut keys, and with the VIN they can gain the key code to stamp out a key. They also should be able to order a cut key. However you do not know if somewhere down the line the trunk lock was not replace and not keyed to the car. If you need to get into the truck reach through the rear arm rest with long extension and socket possible a 10mm and remove the lock catch bolts, then pull up on the deck lid, it may break the plastic cover between the deck lid and body, but you gain access.
