Volvo: My car is dead, volvo 850, cly

Question
My '94 Volvo 850 turbo 5 cly is dead. It is not turning over or anything.  I was told it maybe the alternator. I am trying to locate the part, but I am having problems in achieving this task. I was told the alternator should have a serial number on it. I do not see a serial number.  I need and want my car back on the road.  Can you help me in locating the correct alternator for my car?  Thanks

Answer
Pam,
First are you sure that the alt is bad? It is used to charge the battery and not "turn over" the engine. Now if the battery is dead because of the alt not chargeing them you might be on the right track.
Second look at the alt with a good light and see if you can see the marking that say amps. I would think that your car has a 80 or 100 amp alt. When you have that number call 1-800-28-VOLVO, as they will be able to direct you in locating an alt.
