Volvo: 1992 Volvo 960 transmission problem, volvo transmission, 1992 volvo 960

Question
I am experiencing downshifting problem with my Volvo transmission.  Occasionally, (1 out of 7 times) when I decelerate to a stop, it feels like the transmission has trouble downshifting.  The car shudders to a stop.  It seems to mostly occur when I decelerate quickly.  I just purchased the car with 212K on it.  I was wondering if it needed a transmission flush or is it the transmission going bad?
Thanks

Answer
Jerry,
The mileage indicates more than likely you will need a trans. You should first see if there are any fault codes stored, and deal with those. However to have the trans flushed would be the only way that you would know if just the new fluid would help the shifting. If it was my customer I would do the flush and have the car driven for a week or so to see how well it shifted/downshifted before doing a trans.
