Volvo: Volvo V40, volvo v40, computer replacement

Question
I have a Volvo V40 1998 petrol 2Ltr.Previous owner had intermittent starting problems as if the battery was completely flat. He was told it was the on board computer but didn't replace it because of cost. To get over the problem he disconnected the battery which allowed the computer to reset. I have owned the car for a couple of weeks and had no problems at first but now the fault has recurred ,battery has full power and main leads to it are clean. The car has only done 42,000 miles from new. Has anyone any experence of the problem and the cost of computer replacement if needed. Best Regards John

Answer
John,
There are some control units that will require a down load of new programming to solve the problems. Best thing here is to get the car to the dealership and have them inspect it to be sure that is what it needs. My guess would be the software $200.00 and labor about the same. Prices very all over the U.S. and I feel that you are outside the States.
