Volvo: volvo, actron scanner, system hoses

Question
I have a 1998 Volvo S70, I noticed a large wet spot by myn feet in the drivers compartment. After doing some research I found this to be antifreeze possibly coming from the heater box. What is the easiest way to take the core out and replace it? Also, the check engine light is on. I have an actron scanner and it gave me a po410 and po447. I have tried to find information on these, but there seems to be no tests to perform can you help?

Answer
Robert,
Pulling off the right/left side panels will give access to the core. Screws on the bottom of the case and one in the center of the two pipes. Removing these and catching any leaking water allows the core to come out. I have found that you use the same o'rings for the pipes over again. Code 410 is for the secondary air system. That is the air pump under the battery. There are tests that are preformed to see if the pump is not working and the solenoid valve. Most times the pump and the valve will need replaceing. The valve leaks back and condensation forms in the pump and seizes up. Code 447 is the EVAP system. Hoses to the evap valve could be bad the valve itself might be leaking back, some of the hoses at the systems roll over valve could be broken. If you use a Volvo scan tool you can activate the Air pump, and the solenoid valve. You can run the car and use a vacuum gauage to see if the EVAP is leaking. At times the leak is so bad that all you have to do is remove the hose past the valve and it is leaking. That is the weak spot. Just as the air pump and valve of the SAS.
