Volvo: volvo s40 1.9d sport 115bhp, airflow sensor, intake hoses

Question
QUESTION: hi i just got my turbo replaced and when i took it out today it just had no power as if the turbo wasn,t boosting, theres no smoke or noise and it idles fine if you can help it would be good thanks

ANSWER: Scott,
You need someone that can test drive the car so that they can "feel" the lose of power. Is the check engine light on? Are all the intercooler hoses hooked up and tight? Is it a possibility that you can pull off the hose to the turbo and spin the impeller, so you are sure that it is free to spin? The shop that did the work is not willing to help here? You need a shop that works on Volvo's to look at the car.

QUESTION: hi all the hoses are tight and cleaned i swaped the airflow sensor and still no change, the turbo boost valve is working?,could it be the map sensor, the car has no boost its just flat, i checked the turbo and it is spinning, cheers

Answer
Scott,
Any sensors that maybe at fault should also produce a fault code. If there are not any fault codes the problem is mechanical so go over what was relaced to see if you can find something out of place. The turbos need exhaust to spin them and intake air to compress. If the exhaust spins the turbo it stands to reason there is a problem on the intake air side. Clogged exhaust and clogged intake or loose intake hoses or intercooler are the most common. If you still can not find a problem take the car to a Volvo shop and have someone go on a test drive so you can show them what is going on.
