Volvo: Not proper brakes on Volvo 940, volvo 940, outer edge

Question
I drive a Volvo 940 from 1998 since 8 years and it has today been rolling for 200 000 km with minor problems.
The brakes (never repaired but pads last time (second time)changed one year ago) behave like normal when I press the brake pedal with normal force. If I for some reason need more retardation I have to press a lot harder to improve the braking action. Some kind of two step action. It may be worth noting that there is no tendency for the car to go not straight forward when I break.

Is this something you understand? If so I would appreciate your comments.

Best regards

Answer
Evald,
Sounds like you have a calpier that is locking up, that will cause the car to pull to the side. Rotors on those cars also tend to warp and wear so there is a noticable lip on the outer edge. Get the car to a shop that works on Volvo's so they can test and check it out.
