Volvo: 2001 S40 cronic fuse blowing, 2001 volvo s40, volvo dealership

Question
I have a 2001 Volvo S40 and the fuse under the hood that controls the power windows keeps blowing.  This fuse also controls the power mirrors and maybe the lighter.  The driver is the only person that operates the controls.  We've had the car for approx 1 1/2 yrs and this just started happening.  When we replace the fuse, it only lasts about 1 - 3 days before blowing again.  We've taken it to a Volvo dealership.  We were charged $186 diagnostic fee and they weren't able to diagnose the problem.  They wanted another $450 to continue on with the search of the problem.  Can you please help narrow the search so that I'm not paying through the nose without results?  Have you seen this before?

Answer
Al,
I can not narrow the search. You will have to isolate the different circuit on that fuse and when you isolate the right one the fuse will not blow out any longer. At that point you know what circuit caused it, now you have to search all the switches and wires for that circuit. If you can tell when the fuse blows, then that circuit you were using could be at fault. So you have some idea what needs to be done and some understanding why the labor is so high.
