Volvo: check engine blinking, 2000 volvo s40, engine misfire

Question
I recently changed my spark plugs on a 2000 volvo s40 and it ran perfectly for about 500 miles, then all of a suddenth check engine light began blinking and teh car sputters. I put on the old spark plugs to see if maybe the new ones were bad and it continued doing th esame thing. I also noticed the screw part of the plug smelled heavy of gasoline and may have been a little moist. Is this a bad sign or sopmething i can take care of myself. I can be reached at echeverriaalexis@yahoo.com Thank you for your help

Answer
Alexis,
If you have a plug that is soaked in fuel, that would indicate that cylinder is not firing. If the plug and wire or coil is bad that maybe the cause. About the flashing light, that means there is a fault code in the system and that needs to be read. You need at the very least a shop that can read the fault codes and advise you as to what they are. That might lead to that fouled plug and the engine misfire.
