Volvo: 1996 volvo 850 brake lights dont work, brake light switch, volvo 850

Question
Hi Ray,

I have a 96 volvo 850 and have kept it running pretty well but I have this aggravating problem with the brake lights. None of them come on when I brake. It's not a fuse and I'm pretty sure that not all of the bulbs are blown. Could it be a short or something isn't grounded? I'd like to try and figure this out myself before getting ripped off by a mechanic. Could this be a common problem with these? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dino

Answer
Dino,
Check the brake light switch make sure that power goes to the switch and when the pedal is pushed power flows out. Use a test light and there should be power at one of the wires at the switch and push the pedal power should flow to the other terminal. So both sides of the switch will show power.
