Volvo: S60 Outside Temp Gauge and AC, temperature gauge, temp gauge

Question
The outside temperature gauge on my 2001 S60 often shows very low temperatures (e.g., 25 deg F) even when it's hot outside.  When the temp shows low, I can't get any cold out of the AC.  Is there a feedback between this temperature gauge and the AC unit that cuts off the AC below a certain threshold?  Also, how does one replace the outside temperature gauge?

Answer
Jack,
There maybe a fault in the dash cluster, see if there are any codes. Using the scanner read what that says the outside temp is. When the AC is not working and switch is on see if the scanner show that AC has approval. You maybe low on freon or having a fault with the compressor. You may need to have the AC serviced to see if you have the proper charge in it. Low charged systems do unusual things.
