Question
I bought my son a used volvo, after a few days it just stopped running like it was out of gas, took it to the shop had new fuel pumps put on, same thing happened in 2 days. the mechanic said it was out of gas, but it had at least 1/2 tank. filled it up it runs good for 60 or 70 mi. then acts like it's out of gas again.  what can be the problem.
I do appreciate your help.

Answer
Virginia,
Your car should have a feed pump and a main pump. The car will not run if the main pump is not working. However if the feed pump goes out the main pump works harder and the car sometimes runs but hesitates or dies, or when the gas in the tank gets low it may not run at all. The connecting hose from the feed pump to the steel pipe may also be broken. The main pump is under the car and the feed pump is in the tank.
