Volvo: Volvo S80 -1999, volvo s80, replaceable bulb

Question
I recently have purchased a 1999 S80 and have two problems 1- not working audio controls on the steering wheel (the cruise controls there are working fine)
2- the controls around the audio system and not lighted at night (I am thinking maybe a burned out bulb, but not sure how to change it) Thanks

You will have to see if the contacts at the steering wheel are making contact where the wheel attaches. You might try using a multi-meter and seeing if the switch make a curcuit as the buttons are pushed. The steering wheel will need to come off. Be careful of the air bag sytem disconnect the battery before working on this.
Check with the dealer if there are bulbs available for the radio. Most do not have a replaceable bulb. When the radio lights stop working we replace the radio with a reman unit.
You may want to take the car to the dealer to see if the lights out and the steering controls might be a bad radio.
