Volvo: electrical problems, 1996 volvo 960, volvo 960

Question
i just changed my starter on my 1996 volvo 960 and now i have problems with my windows and lights. They work when they want to when the car is on and with the key in the on position(car not on)windows work all the time.   (I changed the starter because solenoid was getting fire when key turned over to start but starter wouldnt turn over.)

Answer
Mike,
The ignition switch might be failing and not always sending power to the windows. Try when the problem occurs to "jiggle" the ingnition switch and see if the windows then begin to work. There should also be a small red wire that goes to the starter, maybe that wire is loose and or the end is loose causing loss of power. It fastens to the sam e post as the wire from the battery.
